Learn more about the seamless-revolution

Without seams from the start

In recent seasons, the focus in the bodywear sector has increasingly been on seamless technology. This is likely because the manufacturing process eliminates bothersome seams, ensuring that the clothing is barely noticeable on the skin. This makes fashion not only more comfortable but also significantly more versatile.

As part of the Bodywear Collective, which for the first time offers a space for innovations and highlights from the bodywear segment at the PERFORMANCE DAYS fair in October, the team is placing a strong emphasis on the topic of seamless technology. “The circular economy offers a strategic framework for businesses to move from a traditional, wasteful linear model to a more sustainable and regenerative approach. By embracing Zero Waste practices and integrating advanced technologies, such as seamless technology in textiles, businesses can lead in this transformative shift towards sustainability. Our expertise aids brands in innovating with next-to-skin seamless technology by employing various fiber constructions, thereby improving both design and performance. This not only positions companies as leaders in the transition but also contributes to building a more sustainable and resilient global economy,” says Nichole de Carle, co-initiator of the Bodywear Collective and founder of the London Contour Experts Group.

Regina Goller, a textile expert with experience in sustainable functional fabrics at companies like Odlo, Puma, and Jack Wolfskin, also knows why seamless technology is gaining more importance in the performance wear sector. “In performance wear, it is essential that the fit is right, no seams are bothersome, and the pieces fit like a second skin. For example, shaping details can be added where needed through a special programming of circular knitting machines. These machines are also capable of creating different degrees of elasticity in various sections of the garment, providing more support, compression, and shaping where necessary.”

In addition to fit, comfort, compression, and support, seamless products often impress with their breathability. When the seamless technology is applied using the right yarns, it creates clothing that feels like a second skin and has moisture-wicking properties. Lastly, seamless technology results in minimal yarn and fabric waste, as it bypasses the labor-intensive sewing and cutting processes where fabric tends to be wasted. Seamless styles, therefore, generate significantly less waste material compared to items with cut seams. “When seamless products are made from 100% polyester, i.e., from mono-material, which is often the case today, they are also 100% recyclable at the end of their life cycle – meaning the pieces can be returned to the cycle.”

Save the Date: Join us at PERFORMANCE DAYS from 23 – 24 of October and have a look at the new Bodywear Collective sponsored by The Lycra Company. There will be an innovation area with upcoming, exciting new technologies regarding seamless-technologies.
